The current state of Oakland County’s Disability Services

On Monday, June 10, 2024, AMORC, a grassroots advocacy organization, hosted a Town Hall at the Arc of Oakland County, focusing on what we can do collectively to protect the Direct Support Professional wages and OCHN’s diminishing revenue that supports our community.

People from the community shared stories and experiences on the challenges of special needs families in finding caregivers, frustration with the waiting lists for housing and vocational opportunities, or other issues.

Missed the event? Don’t worry - here are handouts, toolkits, upcoming events and more information on how to stay involved:

Direct Support Professional Wages: The DSP crisis in Michigan is at a critical point. AMORC and its members are seeking a fair and livable wage of $20 an hour for all DCWs/DSPs doing critical work for individuals across Michigan.

Connect with OCHN: Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) holds their next board meeting on June 18 from 6-8 PM and allows for 2 opportunities for public comment: once at the beginning of the meeting and once at the end. This means even if you can’t make it to the beginning or stay until the end, you can still be heard.

Connect with your local legislators: Let them know about specific issues impacting your family in receiving disability supports and the underfunding crisis.
