Special Education Experience Survey

In 2023, the Autism Alliance of Michigan conducted the Statewide Special Education Experience (SEE) Survey. This innovative online survey uniquely enhances our collective understanding of the state of special education in Michigan by elevating the lived experiences of parents, caregivers, and students. Through these perspectives, the SEE Survey identifies barriers and disparities that impact student success. Nearly 900 respondents completed this comprehensive survey about family and student experiences within the special education system.

The results of this survey align with our broader mission: building and bridging power toward systemic change in Michigan’s education system for students with disabilities. We aim to inform to empower by using these findings to guide advocacy efforts and influence special education policy, practice, and system-level transformation. By sharing these insights, we strive to build a shared agenda that promotes increased opportunities and improved outcomes for students with disabilities across the state.

Please reference this webpage periodically throughout the summer as we share key findings through “Snapshots” and ultimately release the full survey report.
